What is Krutidev?
Krutidev is a non-Unicode Hindi font created in the early 1990s that maps Devanagari characters to ASCII code points. Text typed in Krutidev looks like garbled English without the font installed - "Hkkjr ljdkj" instead of "भारत सरकार". It cannot be shared on WhatsApp, email, or websites without converting Krutidev to Unicode first.
Kruti Dev 010 is the standard regular-weight variant used by over 95% of government departments in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh. Kruti Dev 011 is the bold version with the same character mapping. Both use identical keyboard shortcuts and conversion tables, so practicing with 010 covers everything you need for government exams.
About KrutiDevTools
KrutiDevTools brings every Krutidev resource into one place - text converter, keyboard layout reference, typing test, and font download. Built for government exam candidates preparing for CPCT, UPSSSC, and SSC typing tests, and for office staff who work with Krutidev documents daily. The converter handles half-letters, conjuncts, and special characters that most other tools get wrong, and the typing test scores you against actual exam thresholds so you know if you would pass today.
Why Krutidev to Unicode Conversion Matters
Government offices still generate thousands of documents in Krutidev daily - court orders, official circulars, tender notices, and administrative letters. These documents cannot be searched, indexed, or shared digitally without converting Krutidev text to Unicode first. When you copy text from a Krutidev document, the font uses English letter positions to display Hindi glyphs, so the raw text is unreadable outside the original application.
Unicode to Krutidev conversion solves the reverse problem. Officers who receive Unicode text via email or WhatsApp need to paste it into legacy templates built with Krutidev fonts. Without conversion, the Hindi text breaks the document formatting.
Krutidev Keyboard Layout and Hindi Typing
The Krutidev keyboard layout is not intuitive. Unlike Inscript (the standard Unicode Hindi keyboard), Krutidev assigns Hindi characters to seemingly random English key positions. The vowel "अ" maps to v, "क" maps to d, and "ह" maps to g. Memorizing these positions takes most typists 2-3 weeks of daily practice.
Government typing tests require speeds between 25 and 30 WPM in Hindi using the Krutidev keyboard. CPCT (Madhya Pradesh) tests at 30 WPM with 90% accuracy. UPSSSC and SSC typing tests accept slightly lower speeds but penalize errors more heavily. Our typing test tracks your WPM and accuracy against these specific exam thresholds so you know exactly where you stand before test day.
For those learning Krutidev typing online, the interactive keyboard layout shows all three layers - Normal, Shift, and Alt. Each layer reveals different characters, and clicking any key shows exactly which Hindi character it produces. This is faster than memorizing from a printed chart because you can test combinations while you practice.
Krutidev Font Download and Installation
To type in Krutidev, you need the Krutidev font installed on your system. Windows, Mac, and Android all support TTF font installation, though the steps differ by platform. Our font download page includes the official TTF file along with installation guides for each operating system.
One common mistake: downloading random "Krutidev font packs" from third-party sites that bundle outdated or modified font files. Modified versions cause conversion errors because the character mapping does not match the standard encoding. Always verify that the font produces "Hkkjr" when you type "Bharat" in a word processor - if it does not, the mapping is wrong and your exam submissions will have broken characters.
Krutidev for Marathi Typing
Krutidev is not limited to Hindi. Marathi shares the Devanagari script, and many Maharashtra state government offices use Krutidev fonts for official Marathi documents. The Marathi keyboard layout, font download, and typing test work the same way as Hindi - the only difference is a few Marathi-specific characters like "ळ" (La).
