Marathi InScript Layout (MSCIT Exams)

The official Windows Marathi keyboard (KBDINMAR). Different from Hindi InScript - has ऍ on backtick, ॐ on Z, and ळ on Shift+N. Used in MSCIT and Maharashtra government exams.

Print or Save the Marathi Chart as PDF

Press Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on Mac) and set the destination to "Save as PDF". The tables above are plain HTML, so they reflow to A4 or Letter without the characters breaking apart, and the Devanagari stays selectable text in the saved file rather than becoming a flat image.

Two settings matter. Turn Background graphics on, otherwise the row separators disappear and the key column becomes hard to scan. Set Scale to around 80% to fit the consonant table on one page instead of splitting it across two.

Marathi vs Hindi Typing Differences

The Krutidev keyboard is the same for Hindi and Marathi. Both languages use Devanagari script, and the Remington layout covers all shared characters. The practical differences come down to frequency of use:

  • ळ (La retroflex): Marathi uses this constantly. Hindi almost never does. A Marathi typist needs to know the Shift+g shortcut by muscle memory.
  • ण (Na retroflex): Marathi has more words with ण than Hindi. The .+k shortcut gets more use.
  • ज्ञ pronunciation: Same character, different sound. Marathi says "dnya", Hindi says "gya". Typing is identical.
  • Anusvara usage: Marathi uses anusvara (ं) in places where Hindi uses the full nasal consonant. More "a" key presses in Marathi typing.

Is the Marathi Krutidev keyboard different from Hindi?
The keyboard layout is identical. Krutidev 010 uses the same Remington layout for both Hindi and Marathi because both languages use Devanagari script. The only difference is which characters you use more often. Marathi typing uses ळ (La retroflex) frequently, which is rare in Hindi. The key for ळ is Shift+g (capital G). Marathi also uses ण (retroflex Na) more than Hindi does.
Which font should I use for Marathi typing?

Press Shift+g (capital G) for ळ. This is the most commonly asked Marathi-specific Krutidev question. The ळ character (called "La" with the tongue curled back) is essential in Marathi words like "माळा" (garland), "कोळी" (spider), and "गोळी" (tablet). Hindi rarely uses this character.
Is there a MSCIT Marathi typing test?
MSCIT (Maharashtra State Certificate in Information Technology) includes a Marathi typing component. It typically uses Unicode (Mangal or InScript layout) rather than Krutidev. Which Marathi shortcut keys should I memorise first?
Start with Shift+g for ळ, since no Hindi chart will drill it for you and Marathi text is full of it. Then the home row consonants (k, j, h, g, f, d, s, a), because they carry roughly half of all Marathi keystrokes. Matras come third: ा on o and ी on h appear in almost every word. Everything else is worth looking up on the chart rather than memorising up front.
Krutidev me ज्ञ Marathi me kaise likhe?
