Typing Speed Improvement Tips
The single biggest mistake beginners make is looking at the keyboard while typing. Cover your hands with a cloth or use a blank keyboard. Your fingers will resist at first, but muscle memory builds within 5-7 days of consistent practice. After that, your speed jumps 30-50% because your eyes stay on the screen.
Start with the home row: a (ं), s (े), d (क), f (ि), g (ु), h (ी), j (र), k (ा), l (स). These 9 keys cover about 40% of all Hindi text. Once you can type home-row words without looking, add the row above (q through p) and below (z through /).
Backspacing is the biggest speed killer. Every backspace costs you 2 keystrokes (the wrong one plus the correction) and breaks your rhythm. If you make an error mid-word, finish the word and move on. In CPCT exams, your net WPM matters more than perfect accuracy - a typist at 25 WPM with 93% accuracy scores better than one at 18 WPM with 99% accuracy.
Practice with varied content. If you only type the same passage repeatedly, you memorize it rather than building real typing skill. Our test uses different passages from government documents, daily life content, and exam-style text to ensure genuine improvement.
