Google Input Tools for Hindi
Type Hindi by typing English phonetically. Google converts "bharat" to "भारत" automatically. No Krutidev font needed.

Setup: Chrome Extension
- Open Chrome browser
- Go to the Chrome Web Store (search "Chrome Web Store" in Google)
- Search for "Google Input Tools"
- Click "Add to Chrome" and confirm
- Click the extension icon in the toolbar
- Select "Hindi" from the language list
- Start typing in any text field - type phonetically in English and the extension converts to Hindi
The extension adds a small keyboard icon to your toolbar. Click it to switch between English and Hindi typing. Press Ctrl+Shift to toggle quickly.
Alternative: Windows Hindi IME
Windows 10 and 11 have built-in Hindi typing support that works without any download:
- Open Settings > Time & Language > Language & Region
- Click "Add a language" and select Hindi
- Install the Hindi language pack
- Press Win+Space to switch to Hindi input
- Choose between Hindi Phonetic and Hindi Traditional (InScript) keyboards
The Hindi Phonetic keyboard works like Google Input Tools - type English, get Hindi. The Hindi Traditional keyboard uses the InScript layout. Both produce Unicode text.
