Nirmala UI to Krutidev Conversion

Nirmala UI is a Unicode font. Converting it to Krutidev uses the same process as any Unicode-to-Krutidev conversion.

Quick answer:

Use the Unicode to Krutidev converter. Nirmala UI = Unicode = same conversion as Mangal.

What is Nirmala UI?

Nirmala UI is Microsoft's modern Indic script font, introduced in Windows 8 as a replacement for the older Mangal font. It covers Devanagari, Bengali, Gujarati, Gurmukhi, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Tamil, and Telugu scripts in a single font family. For Hindi users, it is functionally identical to Mangal - both use Unicode encoding.

Government workers on Windows 10 and 11 often encounter Nirmala UI as their default Hindi font. When they try to open older Krutidev documents, the text appears garbled because Nirmala UI cannot display the ASCII-based Krutidev encoding. The solution is either to install the Krutidev font or to convert the text to Unicode.

Frequently Asked Questions

Nirmala UI aur Mangal mein kya fark hai?
Both Nirmala UI and Mangal are Unicode Devanagari fonts included with Windows. Mangal was the default Hindi font from Windows XP through Windows 7. Microsoft replaced it with Nirmala UI starting in Windows 8. Both use identical Unicode encoding - text typed in one renders correctly in the other without any conversion. The only difference is visual design: Nirmala UI has cleaner, more modern letterforms.
Why does my old Krutidev document look wrong in Windows 10/11?
Windows 10 and 11 default to Nirmala UI for Hindi text. If you open a Krutidev document without the Krutidev 010 font installed, Windows substitutes Nirmala UI, which cannot render the ASCII-mapped characters correctly. Solution: install Krutidev 010 from our font download page, then select it in your word processor.
Can I convert Nirmala UI text directly to Krutidev?
Yes. Nirmala UI is a Unicode font, so use our Unicode to Krutidev converter. Paste the Nirmala UI text, and the output will be Krutidev-encoded text. It is the exact same conversion as Mangal to Krutidev.
Should I switch from Nirmala UI to Krutidev?
Only if your workplace or exam requires Krutidev. For everything else - WhatsApp, email, websites, modern documents - Nirmala UI (Unicode) is the better choice. Unicode text works everywhere without font installation. Krutidev text only renders correctly with the Krutidev font installed.
